Reverse DNS
What is Reverse DNS?
Reverse DNS retrieves the publicly configured hostname for an IPv4 or IPv6 address by querying its PTR record.
Purpose
The tool helps inspect servers, mail servers, and network connections. PTR records are commonly used to identify an IP address.
Accepted Input
- IPv4 address
- IPv6 address
Examples
8.8.8.8 2001:4860:4860::8888
Result
The result shows the checked IP address and its PTR hostname. If no PTR record exists, the tool displays a clear notice.
Notes
Not every IP address has a PTR record. This does not indicate a technical error in the tool.
